Lava Cakes

My little sister asked if I could make lava cakes for her birthday. I agreed, I though it would be a challenge, something I've never made. And I love to bake.

I made a batch two weeks ago, and they did not turn out..I won't share that recipe.

I thought I would give it one more shot, before her birthday..which isn't until Oct. I found a recipe on the pioneer woman. So here you go.

ingredients
4 pieces (squares) Semi-sweet Baking Chocolate
½ cups Butter
1 cup Powdered Sugar
2 whole Eggs
2 whole Egg Yolks
6 Tablespoons Flour

whipped cream
2 cups Real Whipping Cream (seriously It's So Much Better!)
2 Tablespoons Sugar

prep instructions
Spray 4 custard cups with Pam and place on cookie sheet.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Microwave chocolate and butter in large bowl on high for about 1 minute, until butter is melted. whisk until chocolate is also melted.
Stir in sugar until well blended. Whisk in eggs and egg yolks. Stir in flour.
Divide between cups.
Bake 13-14 minutes until sides are firm and center is soft. Let stand 1 minute.
Combine sugar and heavy cream and whip until stiff.
Invert cakes on dishes and top with whipped cream.

I do not have custard cups, and didn't really feel like buying them. So I just used a muffin tin, worked great!

Bees And Leaves

The other day, while Tim was off at school, Noah and I took a walk. Noah fell asleep in the stroller, it has been a long time since he's fallen asleep while on the go. I decided to leave him in the stroller in our backyard, so he could have a fresh air nap. The weather is just perfect, not too cold, and not too hot.

I went exploring my own yard for pictures to take. a little practice with law of thirds, and my f-stop. I don't know how well I did. I am so critical of my own work.

Bees hanging out on the sunflowers. I love watching them moving along pollinating the flower.
leaves on our hedge

The neighbours tree. Most of the leaves have already fallen in our yard..but happy days we have a leaf vacuum, so cleaning up is easy work.

More of the bees

Sadly we got frost the other night, so our veggie garden is finished for the year. I'm already planning for what we are going to plant in the spring.

Last week someone pinned, on pinterest that is, a yummy looking recipe for Gingersnaps. I tried them, and they were so delicious. Since everyone was talking about how hungry my post about Christmas made them, I thought I would share some pictures from our cookie day.

Go ahead try the recipe. Super easy, and delicious.

Independent

I am raising my boys with a more free range way of thinking. I'm trying to raise them independent and strong, so they can make their way in the world without me holding their hands. I don't believe that their is a pervert lurking on every corner, and frankly you know their isn't. Yesterday, before he took off on the school bus, Tim informed me that he didn't want me to pick him up at the bus stop...what??? I was shocked, I didn't even think that this was going to happen yet. So I agreed I would not pick him up at the bus. At 3:40, when I usually picked him up, I started to worry. What if he doesn't make it home, what if he turns the wrong way and gets lost. A million worries, but none of them happened, he made it home. Came through the back gate like nothing was wrong..because nothing was wrong. Just me worrying about nothing. He asked for a glass of milk, asked to play his video game and that was that.

Holiday Edition: WWTKW

<span class=

Holidays already.

Link up with Mamarazzi and Queso

1. What is your favorite holiday?

Christmas. I love Christmas morning, opening presents, eating a delicious Christmas morning breakfast(I like to try something new every year). And then heading out to visit family, and having a huge Christmas supper. hmmm...this seems to be revolving around food.

2. Do you have any fun holiday traditions? What are they?

I know we have some, we must, but I can't think of any...maybe we don't have any traditions.

3. When do you start Christmas shopping?

already started. I have two birthdays in December, and a birthday at the end of November, so I need to get started early or else it gets overwhelming.

4. What is your favorite holiday food?

gingerbread cookies. This recipe

5. Share a favorite childhood holiday memory.

a favorite?....I must of had an amazing childhood, because I can not think of one memory that stands out.

6. Have you ever actually tried fruitcake?

yes, and it is disgusting. My Mom loves it though.

Street Dogs

Last weekend we went to the car show downtown. We stopped to enjoy some hot dogs from a street vendor, one of the joys of being downtown in the middle of summer. It was hot outside, and the hot pavement didn't help. The cars were, as always, amazing. I love looking at other people's nice cars.
